Businesses Across Mississippi Show Commitment to Non-discrimination
Tupelo, MS – April, 09 2014 – The Equality Mississippi Foundation is partnering with hundreds of businesses throughout Mississippi to prove that all people are welcome in the Hospitality State.
The new program, known as “If You’re Buying, We’re Selling,” was the brain-child of Mississippi business owner Mitchell Moore. Moore, the owner of Campbell’s Bakery in Fondren, came up with the idea after Gov. Bryant signed the controversial “Religious Freedom Restoration Act” into law. According to some experts the law creates an environment in the state that could encourage some businesses to deny goods or services to people based on religious belief. Moore, along with hundreds of other business owners throughout Mississippi want to show their commitment to non-discrimination. The new campaign will provide business owners with stickers to place in their window proclaiming “If You’re Buying, We’re Selling.” Participating businesses will also be listed on the Foundation’s website. “We want to be able to reward businesses that are committed to equality,” said Equality Mississippi Foundation president Benson Hill. “Through this program, customers will know which companies are dedicated to providing their goods and services to all, without discrimination of any kind.”
Hundreds of companies across Mississippi have already signed up to display the new stickers in their window. The program is free of charge and is open to any business who is opposed to discrimination of all kinds.
